It makes sense that Animal Collective’s Paw Tracks picked up Mississippi’s Dent May, his sun-drenched electroid pop would make perfect sense to fans of the Collective’s chipper goodtime anthems. While May might nudge closer to the jangling pop missives of Stephen Merritt than his label bosses, there’s a clear link between the sound that comes as a welcome pointer. ‘Do Things’ is May’s second record, and builds on the stripped down sound of his debut ‘Dent May and his Magnificent Ukelele’ resulting in a collection of tracks you wouldn’t find out of place blaring from daytime radio. The clear stand out is ‘single’ ‘Best Friends’ which takes May’s low slung pop into near crooner territory.
