For 14 years, DRNTTCKS [droʊn əˈtæks] have been improvising their way through the German experimental underground between Hamburg and Munich, paying little attention to conventions and releasing numerous albums on labels such as the British Industrial Coast, Beach Buddies from Romania, or the in-house Otomatik Muziek (RIP). Now their first LP is being released: „Die Republik von Eso“.
DRNTTCKS see themselves as part of a network of experimental German music projects that also includes bands such as ZEMENT, DATASHOCK, BALDRUIN and BRANNTEN SCHNÜRE. Like the other bands from this non-scene, DRNTTCKS weave complex themes into a hybrid aesthetic that is as disturbing as it is beguiling. „Die Republik von Eso“ explores themes of crisis, political alienation, the influence of New Age mindsets and the connection between neoliberal self-optimization ideologies and fascism.
Proto-acid sequences and neolithic techno, dubby post-punk and no input noise, New Age quotes and trance-like Krautrock – DRNTTCKS do what feels right at the moment, are always in the moment, regardless of whether it sounds like Weilheim, Detroit or Nuremberg. In one review, it was described as „dystopian party music – like crying on a rave“. Lyrics rarely, titles yes, definitely: „Mindsetlohn“, „Rudolf Steinar“, „Almanvirus“ – it’s about attitude rather than sound autism.
DRNTTCKS rarely play live, consistently release small releases and prefer to stay in the „No Audience Underground“ (Rob Hayler) rather than give in to the „total existence“ (Hito Steyerl) that characterizes music at the moment.
Endure Freeform.
